We were saddened to hear of Mary Payton Prasse's death. She was a joy to talk with, and she had wonderful stories to tell about the happenings in Spotsylvania County - past and present. We will miss her enthusiasm for life!

Our sincere condolences to Mary's family from the Scottish Society of Fredericksburg.  She was a member from its early beginnings until 2002 when she would often attend meetings and share in her knowledge of Scotland and her Scottish ancestry.

My condolences to the Prasse family.  Mary often called me on the phone after reading something in the paper about a matter before the Board, and then gave me all kinds of leads on where to go for answers.  Oftentimes those leads took me down roads filled with Spotsylvania history, including very descriptive backgrounds of families, their histories and linkages, and which always ended up as if I had just finished a Faulkner novel.  It was not until I visited her house one Saturday afternoon that I really got to know her, as she escorted me through her studio and artwork and black and white photos of years past, always with a story behind each one.  I can't say that I knew her well, but I appreciated the gift of her time and knowledge.

I read the online version of the FLS every day and was saddened to read of Mary's death and want to express my sympathy to her family .  She was married to my cousin, John.  His father Henry and mine - Willie - were brothers.  I haven't lived in the Fredericksburg area for over 54 years so have "lost touch" with many of the family - but want you to know I am thinking of you at this  time.

My deepest condolences to your family for the loss of such a wonderful woman.  She was a tremendous mentor to me and took me under her wing one summer in 1987.  I was 16 years old and I learned more about geneology, history and historic preservation in one summer than I had learned for years in school.  I am honored to have known her so many years ago.

Our deepest sympathy to Mary's family in your time of loss.  We remember Mary for her devoted and tireless service to the Spotsylvania County Democratic Committee as a pollworker at the Hazel Run precinct for many. many elections.
