LTC Michael G. Urban, USA, Ret., a lifelong military and civil servant, passed away on November 1, 2025. He was born September 9, 1956, to Wendell and Gertrud Urban. He completed his Bachelor of Science at Augusta College before commissioning in the US Army, leading to a long and distinguished career of dedicated service. Mike’s work brought him and his family to many far corners of the world, and he remained a devoted traveler until his passing.
Awarded the Bronze Star Medal (BSM) and several other honorable citations over the course of his career, Mike humbly played down his accolades while emphasizing the deeds and accomplishments of those working under him. He was a man of principle, possessing rare and surprising humor: always eager to explore new places and cultures, apt to challenge anything of questionable conscience, and committed to upholding the ideals that inspired his service. Mike left an indelible mark on those with whom he served and will be greatly missed by the family that carries forward his commitment to serve.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrud, and his brother, Windy. He is survived by his loving wife, Jaye; his children, Christopher, Jarad, and Sean; his father, Wendell; and his sisters, Brigitte and Patricia. He will be remembered warmly by his grandchildren, Milton, Marlowe, and Ellison.
Mike’s family has planned a memorial service at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service on November 22, at 2:00pm, for close friends and family. His remains will be laid to rest, with military honors, at Arlington National Cemetery.
