

She was born on July 19, 1941, in Fredericksburg, VA to the late Matthew Clyde Sikes and Anna (Lightner) Payne.
Minnie was born and raised in the Fredericksburg area and graduated from Stafford High School in 1959. After High School she started working at Mary Washington Hospital in labor and delivery. Later she transferred to Quantico Naval Hospital and then moved to the Purchasing Department where she retired.
After retirement she spent her time with family, helping with grandchildren, traveling with her sisters and family and loved playing BINGO. She always helped family and friends when they were sick or in need of anything. Minnie had a big heart and a great caregiver.
The family would like to thank Carmen Cox, Kelli Embrey and the Spring Arbor, Mary Washington Hospice staff for all the help, love and support in caring for Minnie.
Predeceased by her father, Matthew Clyde Sikes; mother, Anna Lightner Payne; step father, Bruce Payne; husband John Norman Deats; three sisters: JoAnn Kendall Schroetter, Doris Medlin and Clyde Elain Sikes; two sisters in law: Joyce Alsabrook and Myrna Brent; three brothers in law: Floyd Miller, Archie Berthiaume and LJ Berthiaume; mothers in law: Irene Berthiaume and Connie Deats; fathers in law: Norman Deats and Loyd Berthiaume.
Survivors include two children: Troy Deats (Beverly) and Terry McCauley (Warren); three sisters: Helen Ballard, Rita Tippett and Barbara Ann Wilson; sisters in law: Faye Deats, Dorothy Dye and Paula Thomas; brother in law, Julius Deats; grandchildren: Lindsey Frostick (Brandon), Morgan Deats, Brandon Bass (Holly), Amanda Spiller (Wes), Bevia Patrick (Jeff), Michael McCauley and Stacy Jennings; great grandchildren: Auron “AJ” Frostick, Kyler Frostick, Cadence Stern, Ashley Beall (Justin), Brittany Patrick ; great great grandson, Jameson Beall; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg, VA.
