Obituary of Raymond Michael Bonnell
Raymond Michael Bonnell, known by most as Mike or Popeye, of Spotsylvania, passed away on December 19, 2023, surrounded by family.Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike moved from his hometown to Maplewood, where he lived for over 30 years before moving to Virginia to be closer to his grandchildren. He graduated from New Providence High School and attended the University of Dayton, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree before going on to obtain his Juris Doctorate from The New England School of Law. Mike spent the majority of his working years with Travelers Insurance, where he wore many hats over his 30 plus year career and formed many lasting friendships. What Mike enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends. He loved the ocean and being at the beach, where he also enjoyed fishing and teaching others how to body surf. He enjoyed playing golf and paddle tennis with friends and never missed a Giants football game or a Yankees ball game. Really, he was a fan of sports all year round. He carried that on and off the field as he was the biggest fan of his daughter and grandchildren’s athletic and academic endeavors. When not with family, you could find Mike playing fetch with one of his beloved dogs. Mike was the beloved and devoted husband of his high school sweetheart, Dana, the loving father of his daughter, Meredith and her husband Joe, the big brother to his dear sister Joanne, and the cherished, funniest grandfather of Elijah, Hannah, Zachary, Emma, Emerson, Dylan, and Ada. He also leaves behind many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as many long time friends. He will be missed by all his former co-workers, friends, and family for his quick wit, wisdom, generosity, and hospitality, which he shared with all who crossed his path. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
