Roderick Bruce Stamnes, 72, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024 after a brief illness, with his loving wife of 42 years, Gayle, by his side. Rod was born May 26, 1951 in Newark, NJ. He served in the Air Force after high school and was stationed in California. He later earned a Masters of Science degree in Nursing. He practiced as a Nurse Practitioner for more than 25 years. He married the love of his life and best friend Gayle Lynn on August 1, 1981. Together they lived in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA for 18 years, then on the Oregon coast for 18 years before retiring to the Del Webb Celebrate community in Fredericksburg, VA in 2017.
Rod was an avid marathon runner and triathlete. He enjoyed music, especially The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Traveling Wilburys, and loved singing and playing the guitar. He and Gayle were members of their community Pickleball Club, Dance Club, and Performing Arts Guild, and performed at many community music events, including karaoke.
In addition to his wife, Gayle, he is survived by his beloved dogs Declan and Ariel; his nephew Damian, Darian, CT; his lifelong friends Roger Spivey, White House Station, NJ and Don McQuade, Randolph, NJ; his Aunt Marion and cousins Cathy and Margie; a brother-in-law David and sister-in-law Susan; nephew, Nick and Doug; and many friends.
Cremation has taken place at Rod's request. A celebration of Rod's life will take place on May 17, 2024 from 6PM-8PM at the Riverside Lodge( Del Webb Celebrate Community) in fredericksburg , VA..
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Rod's memory to PETA or the Humane Society.
