Russell Brown Wells, 95 of Fredericksburg, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at home surrounded by his family. Born April 16, 1915, in Alexandria, Virginia, Mr. Wells resided there until 1976 when he and his family moved to Hartwood.
Mr. Wells worked as a structural engineer and was Vice President of W.A. Smoot Co., Inc. until his retirement. He was admired by all who knew him for his wisdom, compassion and loyalty to family and friends. His enthusiam to learn and his love of nature made him a mentor to the younger generation.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Viola.
He is survived by his two daughters; Paula Ham and her husband, David, of Fredericksburg and Rosalie Wells of New York City; two granddaughters, Heather Ham and Janet Hahn and her husband, Christopher of Fredericksburg; one great granddaughter, Kathleen Gill; and two sisters, Jessica Peake of Chandler, Arizona and Gloria Healy of Fredericksburg.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A rosary is to be said at 6 PM with visitation to follow until 8 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
