Shannon Elizabeth Zickert of Fredericksburg, Virginia, gained respite from this world on Thursday the 16th of June, 2022. Shannon fought, strived, and survived much before passing at the far too youthful age of 23. Their passing in the night due to medical complications was shocking but we are heartened that she never surrendered to her challenges. We are thankful that Shannon’s last day was so filled with moments of joy, expressions of love, and communion with friends and family.
Shannon was born in Woodbridge, Virginia, and subsequently lived in Okinawa, Japan, and Jacksonville, North Carolina, before settling in Fredericksburg and attending Wilderness Elementary, Ni River Middle School, graduating from Riverbend High School in 2017, and studying at Germanna Community College.
Shannon had a flair for song and an exceptional gift for art. She had an unabated love of sea-life and every form of cat. She had a rich sense of humor, ranging from the sardonic to the silly. She had a passion for helping others and believed that everyone was capable, and worthy, of redemption. She had dreams of becoming a behavioral health specialist and providing solace to the distressed and hope to the hopeless.
Shannon is survived by father, Sean; mother, Meredith; sister, MacKenzie; and constant feline companion, Uma Jean. We await in anticipation of the moment we rejoin her and rejoice in her company once again.
A memorial service to celebrate Shannon’s life and legacy is scheduled for Saturday, 9 July at 2 PM in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation via personal check made out to “The Sunshine Lady House” and mailed to The Sunshine Lady House (Attn: Heather Honaker) , 615 Wolfe Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The staff, residents, and resources at SLH played a valuable part in Shannon’s life and her continued healing. As a guest, she found much needed comfort, counseling, peace, and purpose.
Shannon, you are irreplaceable. You are missed. You are mourned. You are, and always will be, cherished. We are distraught by your absence. We are thankful for the blessing of your life. We will do our best to fill the void left with your departure by honoring and maintaining the lessons you shared and the love you gave. We celebrate you. Peace be with you, my love. Your song and your spirit resonate into eternity.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mullinsthompsonfredericksburg.com for the Zickert family.
