
The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hanford A. Carter, Sue was raised in Fredericksburg. She graduated from James Monroe High School and Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C. where she majored in English Literature. Married to Robert Lang for 38 years, they raised three children in Fredericksburg. Sue was the first female Treasurer of the Ladies Memorial Association, an active member of the Rappahannock Valley Garden Club, and a fifty year member of The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and vacationing in the Outer Banks, N.C. with her family.
Sue is survived by her husband, Robert S. Lang; children Alexander L. Lang (and wife Courtney K. Lang); Eleanor L. Lang, and Lucy T. Lang; and two grandsons, Elijah R. Lang and Lucas C. Lang. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00a.m., with Rev. Alexander L. Lang officiating. A reception will follow at La Petite Auberge restaurant.
