Dr. Waalkes had an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Chemistry worked for the Public Health Service, National Cancer Institute, and was Chair of Oncology at Johns Hopkins University. During his career he was President of the American Cancer Society of Maryland and worked on the Manhattan Project when he was a Chemist.
He is survived by four sons, Richard H., Steven A., Michael P., Robert LB.; two daughters, Kelly S., M. Nancy; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances and his sister Marian.
A service will be held at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg on Thursday, April 26th at 12:30 PM, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
