Today we gather to celebrate the life of Thelma Bernice Michael Belizaire, known affectionately to all who knew her as “Tia”. Born to Joseph Randall Michael and Daisey Veronica Gooden Michael, on August 7, 1930 in Central Cupey, Cuba. She left this earth on January 22, 2021.
Tia leaves behind a sister, Irone Thompson here in the states and four sisters and two brothers in Cuba. In addition she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Cuba; Alfredo Thompson Jr, Veronica Hibbert, Ivonne Reynolds, AJ, Eugene, Aija, Cameron, and Camille here in the states. Tia will be dearly missed, she enjoyed her warm bubble baths and in her younger days, when her husband was alive, they enjoyed good times of dancing at “El Club Cubano”, dressing up with many jewels and perfume.
Tia’s early years in Cuba, where she completed high school, led her to meeting the love of her life, her soul mate Hilario Belizaire; affectionately known as “Tio”. They
were married in Cuba on September 7, 1966. In 1967 they ventured to the United States with the help of her younger sister Irone and her brother-in-Law Alfredo Thompson, with that they began their lives together. On March 6, 2006 she lost her life partner. Today they now share everlasting life together and we know Tia is in a better place. This gives us solace and we are at peace for we know that although her body is no longer here, she remains in our hearts and with our Lord. While smiling down on us she is dancing in the heavens with the love of her life.
In closing we would like to share a prayer that Tia, in her later years, while living with her nephew Alfredo Thompson Jr, often read. We feel it comforted her, it’s titled “Foot Prints in the Sand” …..
One night I had a dream…
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I
noticed that many times along the path of my life, There was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, You would walk with me all the way; But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, There is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why in times when I needed you the most, you should leave me.
The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.
Thank You from the Thompson, Reynolds And Hibbert Family
