Theodore "Ted" J. Ostrowski, 88, of Ruther Glen, Virginia, passed away peacefully after a long batter with cancer on November 9, 2025. Born on August 6, 1937, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Ted lived a life defined by service, creativity, and a razor-sharp wit that left every room brighter, and occasionally speechless. Whether solving tax puzzles for clients,or exploring the open roads with a map in hand (yes, an actual Atlas), Ted approached each chapter with thoughtfulness, humor, and a deep appreciation for the journey.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Jennie Ostrowski of Waterbury, Connecticut and his sisters, Carol Spino and Helen Marcelynas.
Ted is survived by his daughter Jennie M. (Ostrowski) Roberts and son-in-law Matthew Roberts Jr. of Ruther Glen, VA; and by his beloved grandsons, Grayson and Oliver Roberts, who fondly knew him as ‘Grandbear’ a name that captured both his gentle strength and playful personality.
A proud graduate of Crosby High School’s Class of 1955, Ted went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1964 from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut and built a distinguished career as an accountant and tax professional, serving clients across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. for several decades.
Ted had a deep appreciation for the open road and the stories it carried. He loved to travel, and over the years and miles, he collected not just memories but friendships that spanned states and decades. He never owned a car he didn’t drive for over 200,000 miles, a testament to his adventurous spirit and enduring connections.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ted was a gifted artist with a passion for geometric painting. His work was featured at the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts Gallery and MOVAS – Museum of Visual Arts and Science, where he found joy in sharing his vision with the community.
Ted will be remembered for the deep love and pride he held for his daughter Jennie and grandsons Grayson and Oliver, a devotion that shaped his every day and brought him his greatest joy.
In lieu of a formal service, the family will welcome visitors for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA. Interment will be private.
