Born on Valentine’s Day, 1944, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Tom was the son of the late Thomas Malcolm Pleasants and Alma Elizabeth (Jones) Pleasants. It seemed fitting that a man who brought so much warmth to those around him would enter the world on a day meant to celebrate love.
In his younger years, Tom enjoyed hunting with his local hunt club and spent many cherished hours with friends along the banks of the Potomac River. But it was the quieter moments that seemed to suit him best — settled into his screened porch beside a crackling fire, classic country music drifting from the stereo, his beloved wife and faithful dogs close at his side. Those who knew Tom knew that he needed little else to be content.
Tom was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone whose life he touched.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Libby Pleasants; his two daughters, Stephanie Caspersen (Matthew) and Amy Prewitt (Cullen); his two granddaughters, Abby Caspersen and Haley Caspersen; his brother, Taylor Luck (Barbara); his sisters, Nancy Hubbard (Bob) and Robin Janes (John); numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his two faithful companions, Ricco and Toto.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Fredericksburg SPCA — a cause that would have meant a great deal to Tom.
