Virginia Belle Lilly Cushion

She was born in Jumping Branch, West Virginia on July 9, 1925. She was one of nine children of Henry H. Lilly and Mary Jane Adkinson Lilly. Virginia met the love of her life, George H. Cushion, USMC, while working as a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. They were married on May 3, 1945 and enjoyed 44 years of married life until his death in 1989.

Virginia is survived by daughters Bonnie Belle Richardson and Debbie Belle Taylor, granddaughter Leah Zapata, grandsons Daniel Kraemer, Donald Kraemer and George Taylor, great-granddaughters Danielle Kraemer and Naeomi Zapata, great-grandson Israel Zapata and sister Melva Rucker of Columbus, OH. She is also dearly loved by son-in-law Charles Taylor, grand-son-in-law Milton Zapata and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by brothers Leroy, Woodrow, Carlton, Walter and Ray, sisters Vila and Marie and great-grandson Solomon Zapata.

Virginia was a strong, dedicated Christian and proud to be a charter member of Colonial Baptist Church in Stafford, VA

Virginia was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her gentle spirit, willing heart and Christian values blessed all who had the privilege to know her. It was her fondest prayer that all in her family will meet her again in heaven.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at Colonial Baptist Church at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 15. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
