Ginna Sapanara passed peacefully at home on August 12 after a battle with cancer. Born in 1955 in Brooklyn, NY, she grew up in suburban Rockland County, New York. After marrying John Sapanara in 1981, she lived in Meridian, Mississippi and Hillsdale, New Jersey before retiring to Fredericksburg, VA where she was incredibly active in her local community. She was an incredible homemaker and mother to her three sons and Nana to her two grandchildren.
Ginna had a talent for elevating ordinary aspects of life into something extraordinary. She was an innovative cook, a talented crafter, a passionate gardener and an enthusiastic wine connoisseur. She loved spending time by the water, reading a good book, or enjoying a beautiful sunset. In her retirement, she and John traveled across the United States together, enjoying the local food and wine.
Her greatest joy was spending time with others, especially her many friends in Hillsdale and Fredericksburg. She was a kind, generous and empathetic wife, mother, Nana, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend. The world was a better place with her in it, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Ginna is survived by her husband of 44 years, John, her three sons Timothy, James (daughter-in-law Laura) and Daniel, and grandsons Nate and Hunter.
A service will be held in her memory on Friday, August 21st at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service at 2:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 12pm-2pm. A reception to follow at Brock’s Riverside Grill in Fredericksburg, VA.
