The passing of my cousin Wally reminds me of all the fun times the Mitchell family had in Brooklyn and Franklin Square.
We were a close family thru good and bad times but mostly good times. My dad and his brothers(my uncles) were all hard working guys who loved us all. My cousins were great friends and we shared some great times together. The lady Mitchells were wonderful hostesses and Aunt Mary made some wonderful cakes.
In 1996 Nilda and I moved to VA and created some new memories with Uncle Walter, Aunt Mary and Wally. 
Wally we will miss you but the many great memories from the early days will always be with us.

Another Party at the Franklin Square House

I have many fond memories of gatherings with my first cousins at family residences in Brooklyn, Bellmore and Franklin Square.  Also many picnics at Hempstead State Park.  The house parties were great fun because the adults would have a few libations and the kids would run wild.  At the Bellmore house, a bunch of us climbed on the top bunk in the front room (Nanny's old bedroom) which led to  a collapse.  Don't recall if anyone was on the bottom bunk.  Unfortunately this drew the attention of Uncle Walter and Uncle Ken (my dad) and resulted in a demonstration of yelling -- a dominant trait of Mitchell males.   
At the Franklin Square house, Aunt Vera was in her cups walking down the stairs.  She stepped on the dog (who objected with a loud yelp) and missed a few stairs.  Both lived to tell about it.
I loved being with my cousins.  These were simpler times but good times.  It is very sad that Wally has passed.   My heartfelt sympathy to all my cousins.
