

William Edwin “Ed” Johns of Fredericksburg passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016. He was born on January 24, 1952. The son of the late Aubrey W. and Helen L. Johns of Front Royal, he is survived by his sister, Martha Sieck (Philip), and brother, Robert Johns (Joyce). He was the loving father of two daughters, Elizabeth Robinson and Rachel Blackwell (Robert). He had two grandchildren, Megan Robinson and Jeffrey Blackwell. He is also survived by two nephews, a niece, four great-nephews and a great-niece. A niece predeceased him.
He earned a B.S. from Northern Michigan University in 1974. He studied to be a pharmacy technician at Duke University and worked as a pharmacy technician before graduating from the Medical College of Virginia’s School of Pharmacy in 1983.
He served as a pharmacist in the Fredericksburg area for more than 35 years before retiring from Mary Washington Hospital in 2015. He and his colleagues considered each other family. He often cooked and brought meals to share with them, including his own Crock Pot creations as well as crab cakes made by his brother Robert, a professional chef. He was also generous with his expertise, helping family, friends, and neighbors with questions about medication and navigating the complexities of health care.
He played clarinet, bass clarinet, and organ, and sang in the choir of the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with friends at the beach.
Visitation will be at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home located at 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Nineveh Presbyterian Church on Rte. 522 north of Front Royal on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2 p.m.
