Bill Parker was born in Charlotte, Michigan in 1933 to Floyd and Helen Parker. In 1955, he joined the Air Force and married Joan. After being discharged in 1957, he started his 30 year career in the Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Service. After retirement, he settled in Spotsylvania, Virginia, where he enjoyed working on his garden, building miniature dollhouses, woodworking, photography, genealogy, and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill assisted in the construction of a thrift shop at St. Matthews Catholic Church and helped manage it. He was on the board of the Holleybrooke Home Owners’ Association and helped develop the landscaping for the park area and entrances to the development.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan Parker; his children, Sue Plachy, Bruce Parker (Alice), Karen Nash, David Parker (Elizabeth), and Debbie Parker; his grandchildren, Robin Plachy (Kevin Facto), Anthony Plachy (Ashley), Shannon Parker, Colleen Parker, Danny Nash (Krystal), Sarah Rovnak (Ryan), Kara Schaal (Jeff), and Jenna Parker; his great grandchildren, Sebastian Facto, Madi Plachy, Parker Molineux; and his brother-in-law, Douglas Candler.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Floyd Parker and Helen Lee Parker; brother, Jack Parker; his sisters, Helen Candler, and Marion Davis; and his son-in-law, Rick Plachy.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Park for family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Association of Cancer Research or the Arthritis Foundation.
