Nell Black Pearson went home to heaven early Friday morning, February 18th. Born December 22, 1929, in Belzoni (Isola), Mississippi, she was 92 years old. Nell was the youngest of nine children born to James Robert Black and Margaret Jane Adams Black who have preceded her in death. Nell married her high school sweetheart, Bobby James Pearson who also preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by two sons; James Stephen Pearson, wife Jana, and Mark Alan Pearson; four grandchildren, Drew Curry Pearson Torosian, husband Scott, Micah J. Hogue, Leah K. Hogue, and Jordan N. Hogue, wife Jamie; and four great-grandchildren, Kendall Madeline Torosian, Paige Kathleen Torosian, Rowan James Hogue and Jubilee Erin Hogue.
A lady who always pursued the best in every day. Even as her mind began to fail her, her commitment to a better day was ingrained into her routines, attitude, and relationships. A homemaker who treasured her role in caring for her husband and two sons, and everyone else whom she was quick to make family. She loved the adventure of travel and enjoyed a broad itinerary of cultures and countries. A woman of faith, active and devoted to her church in whatever community she lived, especially as a member of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church of Turlock, CA and Woodward Park Baptist Church of Fresno, CA. She served the Southern Baptist Denomination in leadership and support of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and as an executive board member of the California Southern Baptist Convention. A lady who served others and lived in the confident hope of salvation in Jesus, and a future with him in heaven - now realized! Praise the Lord for this amazing woman!
The family expresses its gratitude and thanks to the caregivers of memory care residents at Westmont Living of Fresno, and to the team at St. Agnes Hospice Care who tenderly watched over Nell in her later days.
Nell will be laid to rest at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 16 at Turlock Memorial Park next to her husband Bob. Visitation and viewing will be on Tuesday, March 15 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Whitehurst Chapel, 836 E. Nees Ave. Fresno, CA.
A celebration and memorial of her life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 19, at Woodward Park Baptist Church, 1801 E. Teague Ave, Fresno, CA. Lunch will be served following the program. The service will be live-streamed on YouTube on the Woodward Park Baptist Church channel.
