Keith, as he was known by family and friends, was born on July 24, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Max and Ama Galloway. On July 23, 1966, he married Mary Alice (Ecker) in Pacific, Missouri. Keith spent the majority of his life in Fulton, Missouri, where he was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for many years.
Keith graduated from Fulton High School in 1957. He went on to attend Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri, graduating in 1959. Inspired by the school’s president, a retired Major General of the U.S. Army and former paratrooper, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
In the autumn of 1962, Keith found himself at the epicenter of American history. He was deployed to Oxford, Mississippi, under presidential order to quell violent rioting and enforce federal court mandates. Alongside U.S. Deputy Marshals, Keith stood the line during the infamous “Battle of Oxford” to ensure the safe enrollment and protection of James Meredith, the first African American student admitted to the University of Mississippi. His military service also included a vital tour of duty stationed along the Korean DMZ.
Following his honorable discharge, Keith returned to Fulton and worked for Harbison Walker International before retiring in 2002. In retirement, Keith enjoyed golfing, collecting, and going on cruises with his wife, Mary Alice. He was a proud and patriotic veteran who loved God, country, and family.
He leaves behind his loving family, including his wife of 60 years, Mary Alice; daughter, Suzanne (Brian) Sabo; son, Donald Galloway; grandchildren, Cole and Caitlin Sabo and Jake and Joey Galloway; great-grandson, Brewer Sabo; brother, Valdon (Jean) Galloway; sister-in-law, Katherine (Charles) Kneedler; and several nieces and nephews.
