

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, 227 East Sixth Street in Fulton. Burial will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
She was born on September 17, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were Russell F. Smith and Blanche M. Drew. During her early childhood, she was raised by her maternal grandparents Lewis and Gertrude Brooks in Tebbetts, Missouri. She attended school in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946.
During her adulthood she held numerous jobs: Occupational Therapist Aide – Fulton State Hospital; Parent Coordinator Head Start – Topeka Public Schools; Program Director Airmen’s Club – Richards Gebaur Air Base; Reporter – Kansas City CALL; Assistant Director Press Relations – Insurance Information Institute, New York City; Housemother – William Woods University; Director – Fulton Day Care and Director C.A.N.-SERVE.
After she retired, she worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (F.E.M.A.) for over 15 years. She also served on the Board of Jail Visitors for 12 years. She enjoyed traveling, genealogy, writing, and art. She was an active member of Oakley Chapel A.M.E. Church in Tebbetts, Missouri
where she was instrumental in dedicating the building as a State Historical Site.
She leaves to cherish her memory five sons, Stephen (Kim) Ferguson of Atlanta, Georgia, Ronald Logan, Donald Logan and Russell Logan of Kansas City and Herbert (Elaine) Logan of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Jean Handy of Fulton.
She strived to teach her eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren the values of life and the importance of making a difference.
