

Harold served in the U.S. Army as a radio and communications specialist. Upon returning to Callaway County, he worked as a machinist for Danuser Machine Company before embarking on a 30-year career with Harbison Walker. After retiring, Harold performed maintenance at the Callaway Livestock Center.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Guerrant; two daughters, Karen Backer and Linda Douglas; his son, Thomas Backer and his wife Talia; three granddaughters, Kristen, Kira, and Brianna; four grandsons, Kirk, Sethen, Nicholas, and Mason; and one great-granddaughter, Julie.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; and three brothers, Yates, Elwood, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Travis Sayler officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm on Friday, May 3 at the funeral home.
In lieu of customary memorials, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Harold’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court Street, Fulton, Mo. 65251.
