James David Pope

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial with military honors will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

James was born February 8, 1924 in Brumley, Missouri to Greenberry and Charlsie Helton Pope. He was previously married to Mildred (Burgdorf) McKinney. He married Katherine Jackson Tate on May 12, 1976 in Holts Summit, Missouri.

James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was attached to the U.S.S. Willard Keith Destroyer. He had worked as a farmer, mailman and fertilizer salesman. He owned Pope Camper Sales in Kingdom City and had also worked for Ashland Homes, Coachman Homes and U.S. Rents It in Columbia.

He was a member of Richland Baptist Church and Callaway Christian Church and V.F.W. Post 2657 in Fulton. James served as the North Callaway School Board President in 1969, and he enjoyed gardening, fishing and working on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine of Fulton; sons, James (Judy) Pope of Ames, Iowa and Joe Pope of New Bloomfield, Missouri; daughter, Janice (Dale) Rothermich of Auxvasse; step-son, Bruce (Karen) Tate of Lake Ozark, Missouri; step-daughter. Cheryl (Paul) Blankenship of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; sisters, Fay Humbird of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ruby Monk of Wendell, Idaho, Lucille Cobb of Springfield, Missouri and Dean Reed and Jean Bolton both of Kingdom City, Missouri; step-son-in-law Jeff Feltner of Fulton, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters-in-law, Sandy Pope and Peggy Tate; step-daughter, Christina Feltner; grandson, David Pope; step-granddaughter, Debbie Hoover; brothers, Bobby, Billy and Joe Pope; sisters, Nancy “Birdie” Hays, Mabel Rutherford, Lena Thurston, Dorothy Eastwood and Mary Ross.
