Jerry was born on July 18, 1945 in Reger, MO the son of William and Lorraine (Trumbo) Murphy who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1965 to Beverly Corbin in Trenton, MO. After working 35 years at Callaway Electric Cooperative, he retired as their office manager in 2007. In addition, he served on the Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors of the Missouri Electric Cooperatives Employees’ Credit Union.
He dearly loved his bride of 60 years, his kids and his four granddaughters and was always ready for a little adventure with family, whether it was a shopping trip, car show or watching a volleyball game. Time with his family brought him much joy.
As a youth he came to faith in Jesus and as an adult served in many ways at Fulton First Baptist Church, including teaching Sunday School to junior high boys and later four year olds. He faithfully attended the Men of Integrity Bible study, and the men he gathered with were an important part of his spiritual life and community.
Always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, Jerry had a heart to serve others.
He was a DIY guy, even building the house he and Bev lived in together for 50 years. He had the skills to fix almost anything and was always working on some sort of project.
A favorite hobby of Jerry’s was collecting classic Studebaker cars, including the 1962 black Hawk that he was driving through Trenton when he first saw and then met Bev. Together they loved all types of animals, particularly dogs.
Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Murphy of the home; one son, Chris Murphy (Julie) of Fulton, MO; one daughter, Marcy Taylor (Ron) of Baxter, TN; one brother, Ronald Murphy of Milan, MO; four grandchildren, Madison Murphy, Hadley Downard (Cale), Allison Murphy (Jace Lobner) and Lindy Taylor; and his brother-in-law, Bob Corbin (Deyann). He was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Kay Murphy.
