

He was born on October 10, 1926 in St. Louis, MO the son of Nicholas J and Pauline (VonVersian) Johnson who preceded him in death. John was a veteran of the US Navy, then after serving he obtained his Master’s Degree from Washington University. He was a Senator for the State of Missouri from 1960-1972. In 1963, he started South County Bank in St. Louis, and in 1968 the bank merged with Mark Twain Bank. John also was a civil worker for the US Airforce and US Army.
Survivors include: his companion and caregiver, Gundi Schlemeier of the home and her two sons, Lanny Schlemeier and Jorgen Schlemeier and their families; one daughter, Alane Antoine; one son, John S. Johnson; four grandchildren; and two sons brothers, Tom Johnson and Carl Johnson. He was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM until time of services at the funeral home.
