John is survived by his loving children; son Chad (Julie) of Fulton, Missouri, daughter Charlene Brock (Chet) of Crestwood, Kentucky, and grandchildren Owen Uhls, and Landyn and Payton Brock. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Susan, and his parents, Dean and Hettie Mae Uhls of Peru, Kansas, brothers Jay, Joe, Ronnie and sister Deena.
John was born on January 27, 1938 in the township of Belleville, Kansas. He graduated from Peru High School where he was a basketball star, averaging over 32 points per game his senior year. On one occasion John scored 56 points in a single game, a Kansas state record to this day. John lived a majority of his life in Louisville, KY, where he made his living selling industrial supplies. He retired to Surfside Beach, South Carolina in 2008 where he enjoyed his bowling league, watching the St. Louis and Louisville Cardinals, and hosting his children and grandchildren at the beach.
John will be cremated and the family will have a private memorial service in Danville, Indiana to remember both John and Susan together this fall. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in John's memory to Churchill Terrace in Fulton, Missouri, where he was so well cared for over the last several months:
