

He was born August 20, 1932 in Fulton to James Grandson Salmons and Virginia Gilman and they preceded him in death. He was married to Charlene Milliken on March 6, 1971 in Fulton.
JR served in the United States Army during the Vietnam and Korean Wars and later served in the National Guard. He was a member of VFW Post 2657 in Fulton and also New Hope Baptist Church in Calwood.
He enjoyed traveling, going to flea markets, fishing and also going to the shows in Branson.
JR worked early in his life as a farmer and then served as the Deputy for Callaway County Sherriff Department and as an EMT for Callaway County for 13 y ears. He then worked for the Fulton State Hospital and Department of Corrections until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene of Fulton; daughters, Pam Trammell of Myrtle Beach, South Caroline and Tammy Salmons of Alamogordo, New Mexico; step-daughters, Terri Milliken of Granite City, Illinois, Tammy Rowe of Osage Beach, Missouri, Susan Lyons of San Diego, California and Patty Furkin of Columbia, Missouri; son, Doug Salmons; brothers, Buzz Salmons of Auxvasse, Missouri and Jerry (Barb) Gilbert of New Haven, Missouri; sisters, Chris (Vic) Weiser of Calwood, Missouri; Becky Eager of San Bernardino, California and Rene’ (Wayne) Reynolds of Vandalia, Missouri along with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Big Jim Salmons; sister, Erna Blackburn and step-son, Kenny Craig Milliken.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Debo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
