

April 15, 2017. He was born in St. Charles, Missouri to Edwin and
Martha (Wallenbrock) Bruns on January 31, 1924.
He resided with his wife, Betty (Schwab) and their two children for 60 years
before moving to Fulton in 1987.
As a young adult, he joined the Army when the U.S. entered into WWII.
He went into the Signal Corps and deployed to Europe
where he participated in both the “Trial run” for D-Day, Exercise Tiger
and D-Day landing on Utah Beach.
He continued in the service through the end of the War,
was discharged in 1946 and continued
his work in the communications field when he joined
Southwestern Bell Telephone.
In the summer of 1946, he accompanied his uncle to a
threshing show in Montgomery County, renewing his interest and desire
to be around steam engines and separators.
He has attended a minimum of one show every year (more often three shows)
since 1946. He had steam in his “blood” and passed that love of
steam engines along to his children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
An only child, Leonard was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived
by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Schwab), son Leonard “Red” (Debbie), Fulton
his daughter, Valerie (Flake Brantley), Weaverville, NC, grandchildren,
Shawna (Mike Soptick), Fulton, Chris (Sarah), Holts Summit
and great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Zane and Rylie.
Visitation will be held 5-8 pm Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Debo Funeral Home,
833 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri.
Services with Military Honors celebrating Leonard's life will be held
2:00 pm Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
1703 Plaza Drive, Fulton, Missouri.
