So sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandmother, reading about her rich life, and the commonality we have of love of cake baking, was so precious! I now know you enjoyed many a good meal and great cakes with her growing up. Grandmothers are so precious I pray your memories of her comfort you in this time. I pray for the strength of your family.

I will never forget the beautiful wedding cake she made for mine and Harvey's wedding January 16, 1993. It was obvious the love, time and concern she poured into that cake. It was breath taking. No one could make a cake like Mabel. She told me many years later, 19 in fact, that she really wanted to make that cake for our wedding. I told her I wanted her as well. She was surely a jewel, and like her cakes, a one-of-a-kind!!!!!!

Much love to the family from

When my husband, Chuck, and I joined Central Church, we were familiar with several members already but there were many I didn’t know. During one of the first dinners there, I had the good fortune to sit by Miss Mabel and found that she’d made the rhubarb cobbler I’d just devoured. She shared the recipe and that began a fast and true friendship - I was one of her many many friends now and it felt glorious! She always spoke and seemed as excited to see me as I was to see her as she grabbed my hand and gave me her megawatt smile. She told of Marvin and going from friends to sweethearts to husband and wife - and of their pact that when the sun touched them in the mornings they were apart due to the war, it meant the other one was sending them a kiss. Their romance went beyond the grave as she continued to receive those sunshine kisses from Marvin, who was then residing in Heaven. It’s a much more joyous place there now as she received a wonderful welcome from her life-long love directly! I’m sure the sun still shines on them but they no longer have to wait for it to shine for a kiss as they’re finally back together. You touched so many lives for the better, Miss Mabel, and I’m so grateful that I was one of them. Godspeed, Miss Mabel, Godspeed! 🤟
