

Mary Virginia Scott Baker, age 96, of Fulton died Saturday, November 19, 2016. Mary Virginia was born on July 10, 1920, in Moberly. She was the oldest daughter of Professor Harold and Kate (Smith) Scott. The family returned to Fulton by 1924.
Mary Virginia graduated from Fulton High School in 1938. She received her A.A. degree from William Woods College in 1940 and a B.S. from Washington University in 1942. She taught at the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis for four years and the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton for twenty-three years.
On 23 June 1946, she married William Frazier Baker in the Swope Memorial Chapel at Westminster College He preceded her in death in 1979. They had five children: Kate Saltzman, Margaret (Sam) Graham, Bill (Betsy) Baker, Betty (Emery) Smola, and Barbara (John) Lacewell.
Mary Virginia was a former Elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of DAR and PEO. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret (2011), both her brothers, John (1991) and Harold (2010), and her sister, Sue Gould (2005). She is survived by four children, thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and her sister, Shirley Payne.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 718 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri 65251.
