Mary was born on March 12, 1930, in Callaway County, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Price and Hazel Myers Dozier. She graduated from New Bloomfield High School. She was married January 2, 1949, to Albert J Hiatte who preceded her in death on October 23, 2009. She was employed as a secretary and admissions clerk at Fulton State Hospital before her retirement.
Mary Lou was always on the go. She loved her church activities and never missed an opportunity to play cards. She was a masterful cook and enjoyed anything with chocolate. Delivering dishes to bereaved church members or neighbors was every week practice. The Fourth of July was a very special time for Mary Lou. She loved gathering all her family and neighbors together for an enormous barbeque. Mutton was the main item on the menu; however, all really came for her pies and cakes. Truth be told, she just wanted to gather all those she loved so she could see and love on them.
Quilting was a hobby she loved. She loved to gather with friends at Mrs. Murphy’s house in Fulton to visit and stitch quilts.
She is survived by one son, James Mark Hiatte, and his wife, Debbie, of New Bloomfield, MO; one daughter, Nancy Wadhams and her husband, Kevin, of New Bloomfield, MO; two granddaughters, Katy Golighty and her husband, Andrew of Holts Summit, MO, Alicia Wadhams of Gahanna, OH, and two grandsons, Jonathan Hiatte of Lemoore CA, and Daniel Wadhams of New Bloomfield, MO. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as their children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; a baby son; and two brothers, Thomas Nelson Dozier and his wife, Emily, William Elgin Dozier and wife, Norma Jean Dozier; brother-in-law, Donald and his wife Barbara.
She was a member of her family’s church, Dry Fork Baptist Guthrie, Missouri, XYZ Senior Citizen Group, Guthrie Service Club, New Bloomfield Historical Society, Ladies Day Out at the Meadow Lake County Club, and Wednesday Senior Citizen Club.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, with funeral services immediately following at Dry Fork Baptist Church. Interment will be at Dry Fork Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Dry Fork Cemetery Fund or donor’s choice, c/o Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court St, Fulton, MO 65251.
