She was born December 8, 1927, in Fulton, Mo., the daughter of Dr. Albert R. and Louise (Rose) Hammen. On June 1, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Joseph Shryock, after he returned home from military service in World War II. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2024. Rosemary was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas E. Hammen and his wife, Marjory.
During their 77 years of marriage, Bob and Rosemary lived on the Shryock family farm in northern Callaway County, where they raised four children: Janice Farr (John), Columbia; Bruce Shryock (Patty), Hatton; Nancy Vessell (Ron), Virginia Beach, Va.; and Jeff Shryock (Jennifer), Hatton. Rosemary cherished her family, which has grown to include 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, who loved to gather at the family farm for holidays and other events.
Rosemary was known as a terrific cook, perhaps best known for her chocolate sheet cake, snickerdoodle cookies, and legendary dinner rolls. If company was coming, it was not unusual for her to have a pie baked by 7:00 a.m. A talented seamstress, she sewed beautiful dresses for her daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Every summer she tended a large garden, from which she preserved vegetables enjoyed throughout the year. She was a longtime member of Prairie Chapel Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 10:30 am – Noon. Funeral service will follow at Noon at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Klepees officiating. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Prairie Chapel Methodist Church or SERVE Inc., a social services agency in Callaway County, c/o Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court St., Fulton, MO 65251.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice and the Arbors at Colony Point for the care of their mother in her final weeks.
