Shirley was born on February 27, 1930 in Marshall County, IA the daughter of Roy Sherwood Phelps and Arvilla Lenora (Shank) Phelps who preceded him in death. She was a graduate of Fulton High School and faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. On October 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Lawrence McVeigh who preceded her in death on March 5, 1981. Before Shirley was married, she worked for 5 years at Callaway Bank, and then she worked for 30 years at Fulton State Hospital, retiring in 2002 from Materials Management.
Survivors include: two sons, David McVeigh of Fulton, MO and Curtis McVeigh of Independence, MO; her twin brother, Sherwood Phelps of Jefferson City, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Phelps.
Private burial will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery, Fulton, MO.
