

She was born on February 1, 1928 in Dixon, Missouri, the daughter of Herbert and Golda Hoffmann, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to James Lawrence Murphy on August 27, 1949, who preceded her in death on December 7, 2003.
She worked for Exchange National Bank until her retirement in 1993. She was a faithful Christian and worshipped at the Church of Christ 1316 Fairgrounds Road, Jefferson City. Shirley enjoyed Bible study and farm life – gardening and canning- cooking, baking and sewing.
She always made time to care for her elderly friends. She and her husband, Jim, would often travel exploring the United States and visiting family or friends.
Survivors include three sons, James (Deb) Murphy of Frankford, Missouri, Lawrence (Donna) Murphy of Jefferson City and Michael (Marcia) Murphy of Searcy, Arkansas; one daughter, Pat (Tom) Greninger of Holts Summit, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Kyle (Jennifer) Murphy, Shea (Becca) Murphy, Kevin (Britney) Murphy, Tyler (Allison) Murphy, Lucas (Marsha) Murphy, Monica (Mario) Hofheinz, Ryan (Jessi) Murphy, Laura (Alex) Rodgers, Nathan (Kathye) Greninger, Joe (Kaycee) Greninger, Sabrina Grenginer; twenty-three great-grandchildren and one sister, Lola Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; her sisters, Ruth and Inez and brothers, Robert and Herbert.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Debo Funeral Home, 10920 Old Highway 54 North, Holts Summit, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Debo Funeral Home officiated by Mr. Brent Newton, minister. Interment will be in Summit Memorial Park.
