Addie Nolen

Mrs. Addie Nolen, 92, Gadsden, Al, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at Collier Butler Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The Reverend Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.

Addie was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Alexander City, Al. She was the youngest and last surviving of 10 children born to A. J. McClellan and Mary Addie Self McClellan. Addie has been a resident of Gadsden for the past 64 years. She was a former member of James Memorial Baptist Church and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jackson Nolen and her grandson, John Andrew Nolen. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Nolen King; her sons, Jim Nolen and David Nolen, and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Nolen; grandchildren, Becky Nolen Word (Randy), Jim W. Nolen (Romy), David King (Stephanie), Drew King, and Jennifer Nolen Avery (Brent); and great-grandchildren, John David Word, Natalie Word Mason (Jonathan), Catherine Word, Jamie Nolen, Jennie Nolen, Jake Nolen, Caroline Avery, Eddie Avery and Oliver Avery. Addie also is survived by her brother-in-law, Stan Nolen, and sister-in-law, Ellen Nolen, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and her name sake, Lillian Addie Knight.

Brent Avery, David King, Drew King, Jim W. Nolen, John David Word and Randy Word will serve as pallbearers.

Addie was greatly loved by her family and friends, and she returned that love with warmth and grace. She also was known for her sweet spirit coupled with a subtle wit and a wonderful sense of humor - and her passion for Alabama football. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John Croyle Big Oak Ranch or your favorite charity.

Visitation will be held at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 2 from 12:30 - 2 p.m. just prior to the funeral service.
