

Alex Lafayette Holtsford, Sr., 91, formerly of Gadsden, departed this earthly life on October 27, 2022. Alex was born on May 18, 1931, in Birmingham, but lived the vast majority of his life in Gadsden. He was a 1949 graduate of Gadsden High School, and then graduated from Birmingham Southern College following the honorable completion of his military duties in the US Air Force in Korea. He worked for many years as a successful pharmaceutical representative. He was a wonderful husband, father and role model to his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Jean Pruitt Holtsford; his parents, Ernest Lafayette Holtsford and Alma Turner Holtsford; and his sisters, Ernestine Holtsford and Sandra Wells. Alex is survived by his three children, Ronald (Jennifer), Alex Jr (Charlene), and Laurie, all of Montgomery, and by his brother Randy Wells (Martha) and sister Peggy Aurich (Lynn).
He leaves behind his loving grandchildren Joshua Holtsford (Danielle), Will Buchanan, Aaron Holtsford, Trey Holtsford (Rebecca), Charles Holtsford (Julie), and David Holtsford. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, William Holtsford, Sophie Chevalier, Anne Pruitt Holtsford, and Georgia Kathryn Holtsford. Alex was a long time and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Gadsden, where he served in several administrative capacities and was well loved by the membership.
A memorial service will be held at FUMC in Gadsden on October 31, at 11:00, with visitation one hour prior to the service, and then burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham thereafter at 1:30. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alex can be made to First United Methodist Church of Gadsden, Alabama.
