Funeral service for will be held Sunday, June 3rd, 2018 at 4pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Barbara B. Whorton (Nana), age 76, of Rainbow City. Burial will be at Old Harmony Cemetery in Rainbow City. Brother Paul Smith will be officiating.
Barbara was a graduate of Etowah High School in the class of 1959. She attended The Holy Name School of Nursing and continued nursing for 57 Years. She worked 45 of those years at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Barbara was an avid reader and loved being with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ellis and Estelle Brannon; brothers-in-law Donnie Whorton, Frank Teems, and Ken Runyan; grandson Shada Armstrong
Barbara is survived by her husband Wayne Whorton; children Gary (Kim) Whorton, Renee (Benny) Armstrong, and Stephen Whorton (Lenesha Zaner); grandchildren Trey, Benjamin (Melissa), Hannah, and Caleb Whorton, Luke Womack, Zack and Scott Armstrong (Amanda Elliott), Stephenie (Bobby Sholar; great-grandchildren Tanner Kilgro, Kade Sholar, Reagan Armstrong, Alyssa and Jordan Elliott; sisters Peggy Teems, Elaine Brannon, A’lece (Ronnie) Hood and Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Trey Whorton, Luke Womack, Caleb Whorton, Benjamin Whorton, Scott Armstrong, Zack Armstrong, Bobby Sholar, Tanner Kilgro, and Kade Sholar.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the 9th floor staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center, especially Barbara Colvin and Sarah, Dr. H. Patel, and Gadsden Health and Rehab
Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm until the hour of the service.
