Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Monday, July 18, 2011, at Collier- Butler Chapel, Gadsden, for Billie Imogene “Jean” Dodd, 82, who went to her heavenly home on July 12, 2011. Dr. Craig Carlisle and Steve Parrish will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dodd was born on August 30, 1928, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to Ella Miller Lee and William Monroe Lee. She spent the majority of her life in Alabama and was a graduate of Susan Moore High School.
She was a long-time member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was very devoted to her ladies Sunday school class there, but when she and her husband moved to the Holy Comforter because of his failing health, they both became members of Steve Parrish’s Sunday School Class there, as an on-site class through Twelfth Street Baptist Church. After her husband’s death, Jean moved her membership to Twelfth Street because she believed her membership should be where she was being fed the word. Until a stroke in March, 2010, when she moved to an assisted living, she was an active member of Steve’s class and was constantly inviting others at the Holy Comforter to join the class.
Mrs. Dodd was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Freddie (Junior) Dodd; mother, Ella Miller Lee, father, William Monroe Lee, and step-brother, Paul King.
She is survived by her only child, Janice (Ronnie) Cornutt; granddaughters, Candi (Gregg) Thompson, and Corri (Nathan) Edwards; great-grandchildren, Brinley and Brooklynn Thompson and Daniel Edwards; sister, Irene (Joe) Phillips; nephews, Joe Phillips, Jr. and Terry (Cheryl)Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Joe Phillips Jr., Terry Phillips, Jerry Albert, Todd Albert, Rick Bearden & Lauil Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Ralph Wesley, Greg Dial, and Wayne Eads.
The family would like to thank the staff at Almost Like Home and especially Brenda, Linda, Sandra, and Theresa.
The family will receive visitors two hours prior to the service, and request no flowers, but asks that you honor her memory with donations to the building fund of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, 800 West Grand Avenue, Rainbow City, Alabama, 35906.
