Billie Louise Johnston

Billie Bownds Johnston passed away in Gadsden, AL July 2, 2022 at the age of 92 years old. Billie was born on June 7, 1930 in Tahoka, TX to Truly Augusta Bownds and Ora Hodges Bownds. She grew up in Slaton, TX, graduating from Slaton high School. After graduating from high school, she worked as a teller at a local bank. During her time at the bank, she met the love of her life, Mahlon "Johnny" Johnston. They were married in 1947. Shortly after they wed, the two moved to Lubbock, TX. Once her two children reached school age, she worked seasonally classing cotton for the USDA. She was a longtime member of Sunset Church of Christ.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon "Johnny" Johnston; a brother, Truett Bownds; two sisters, Marcell Bradshaw and Uvaughn Davis.

Billie is survived by a daughter, Janette Johnston; a son, Kerry Johnston and wife Carla; a brother, Donald Bownds and wife Carleen; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanders Memorial Chapel located at 1420 Main St.
