Billie Frances Tolbert

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billie Frances Tolbert, aged 92. She passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. Born February 27, 1933 to Harry and Nora Leverton in Birmingham, AL, she was a resident of Gadsden, AL for most of her adult life.

She was a devoted wife of 69 years to Fred “Pete” Tolbert and a loving mother, sister, grandmother and more. Billie was the 5th of 9 children and loved to sit, talk and visit with her family and friends. She had an incredible memory for numbers and knew the birthdate of everyone she had ever met.

Billie knew the Lord and attended several churches in the community over the years. She was a perfect example of how to truly love people. She never met a stranger and always said, “I love you” with goodbyes.

She loved the beach, traveling, music – especially blue grass and gospel – and was happiest when she was singing hymns, playing cards and visiting with anyone that stopped by for a cup of coffee.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fred “Pete” Tolbert; granddaughter Kelli Humphries Jemison; parents Harry and Nora Leverton; siblings: Doris Westcott, Marie Wells, John “JB” Leverton, Martha England, Eleanor “Suzy” Tolbert, Helen Whitfield, and Dennis Leverton.

Mrs. Tolbert is survived by her daughter and best friend Paula Humphries; son Robert Tolbert (Jill); grandchildren: Shane Humphries, Cindy Davidson, Ashley Waldrop (Heath), Stephen Tolbert (Amber), Sarah Walker, and Joseph Tolbert; great-grandchildren: Baylie Humphries, Mason Humphries, Katie Brooks (Winston), Caden Davidson, Claire Davidson, Chloe Davidson, Shawn Hutt (Brittany), Ava Reese Waldrop, Westin Waldrop, Henry Waldrop, Ezekiel Tolbert, Wesley Tolbert, Maggie Walker, Andi Walker, Jack Walker, Great-great grandchildren: Collins Brooks, Harris Brooks, Jayden Hutt, Branson Campbell, Bryson Campbell; and brother Donald Leverton (Kathy).

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home at 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 3501. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with a service at 2:00 pm and grave-side service at Rainbow Memorial Gardens directly following.
