Brenda Shelane Reavey, 75, of Rainbow City, AL passed away on December 11, 2022. Brenda was born in Five Points AL, and was raised in Lanett, AL. Brenda was married for 48 years to Col Mike Reavey, USAF, ret. She was Methodist by faith and deeply loved her Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lea Williams (John) of Springville, AL; son, Michael Kelly Reavey (Cilicia) of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren, Jeffrey Isaac Young, Damian Joseph Zolik (Mea), Adrienne Lea Griffith (Todd), and Jalen Emmet Reavey; great grandchildren, Jax and Michael Zolik; and her sister Melenda Ellis (John) of Huntsville, AL.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Richard Doye House and Mary Anglin House of Lanett, AL.
Brenda was the epitome of the Air Force wife, moving numerous times with Mike as his career required. She set up warm loving homes each time, joined her community and participated in various faith-based service activities. After Mike's retirement she was very active caring for her elder parents as their health declined and this experience evolved into a self- initiated companionship ministry at various local nursing homes bringing cheer and happiness to elder citizens with no extended family support. Her nursing home ministry grew into her "calling" when she and her husband became "empty nesters." She thoroughly enjoyed bringing moments of happiness to local elders, and she was much loved by those she helped. After Mike's retirement from the Air Force, she and Mike moved into their dream home in Crestview, FL, which Brenda designed. Unfortunately, in 1994 Brenda suffered a major heart attack and stroke. Using her faith and grit she fully recovered and led a very normal and productive life for many years until another health issue struck six years ago, following which her health began to decline. She passed peacefully, suffered no pain and knew her loved ones were at her side. We all know this beautiful soul is in a better place.
Friends are invited to attend the visitation for Brenda on Sunday, December 19, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. where a memorial service will follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. and will be held at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. Mike and Brenda had planned to be buried in a military cemetery. Brenda will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
Family and friends will remember Brenda's beautiful smile, magnetic personality, and her boundless energy to love, help, and pray for others.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
