Julia “Carolyn” (Watford) Phillips, died peacefully on July 14, 2018 in Gadsden, AL at the age of 84 years. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, Robert “Bobby” Fresh, Jr. (Sheila) of Cumming, GA, her daughter, Genny Fresh (Craig Scott) of Gadsden, AL, & her sister Kay (Thomas “TD”) Dowling along with many special nieces & nephews. Carolyn was a particularly proud & loving grandmother to her three grandchildren (Leslie Hackney and Brynn & Jake Crain). In addition, she was especially fond of her three great-grandchildren (Watt & Will Hackney and McCartney Crain). Carolyn was preceded in death in 2010 by her first husband, Robert Fresh, Sr. and in 2007 by her second husband, James “Clifford” Phillips. Carolyn was born October 29, 1933 in Gadsden, AL to Cecil & Eloise Watford. Mrs. Phillips graduated from Gadsden High in 1952. Carolyn enjoyed working & greeting customers at her father’s restaurant, McCuen’s BBQ, until it closed.
The family would like to thank the doctors at Etowah Pulmonology (Drs. Kaleem, Masood & Raval) for their loving care. In addition, the family would also like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center for their gracious and attentive care the past several weeks. A private service for family members is planned for July 20, 2018, at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden, AL.
