Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Charles Dewey Freeman, 83, who passed away Monday, April 8, 2013. Bro. Doug Alverson will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Freeman was a 1948 graduate of Gadsden High School and attended Jacksonville State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Siemens-Allis after 36 years of service. He had been a member of East Walnut Baptist Church since 1957, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher and served on pastor search committees. He was a living testament of his Christian faith and saw the good in everyone he knew and met.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Mamie Freeman; step-mother Durah Freeman; brother, James Freeman; and brother-in-law, Conrad Curl.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Davis Freeman; daughters: Katie (Scott) Baker, and Karen Kellicut (Sam Pollock); grandchildren: Jordan Baker, Adrian Baker, and Kori Tucker; great-grandchildren: Kylie Leath, and Amiyah Hughley; sister-in-law, Dorothy “Cookie” Curl; nephews: Greg (Jennifer) Curl, Reagan (Kelley) Curl, and Stanley Freeman; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Baker, Jordan Baker, Joe Brothers, Ronnie Hollingsworth, Doug Blackwell Steve, Stewart, and nephews Greg Curl and Reagan Curl.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Todd Cross, Jim Lombardo PA, Dr. James White, Dr. Thomas Corley, Dr. Lowndes Harrison, Jerra Carter, Scottie and staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Cancer Center, and employees of Hughes Pharmacy and Alacare Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to East Walnut Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
