

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church for Charles Melvin Ramsey, 73 of Rainbow City, who passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Van Lockridge will officiate. Private family only burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Ramsey was a 1960 graduate of Etowah High School. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Albright/Akin Sunday School Class. He was on the Board of Directors of the Fellowship House, and he was also a member of the Gideons and the Cedar Bend Masonic Lodge.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and also worked for Culp Industries, Fitness Plus and The City of Gadsden.
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Hazel Ramsey; and special friend, Ralph Culp.
He is survived by his wife Rita Ann Ramsey; children, Todd Ramsey (Charlotte Rodgers); and Renea Brothers; grandchildren, Ryan Brothers, Kelly Brothers, Adam Brothers, and Crystal Ramsey; great-grandson, Brantley; sister, Joyce (Benjamin) Smith; sister-in-law, Sandra (Lonnie) Jones; aunts, Betty Jean Ramsey, and Mildred Jones; and very special aunt, Evelyn Banks; and a host of family and friends.
Special thanks to the staff of Alacare Hospice; and the Albright/Akin Sunday School Class.
Pallbearers will be Henry Culp, Ted Turner, Larry Brackett, Randy Campbell, Jack Mayfield, and Ray Hutchinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Dowdy and Joe McEachern.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church prior to the service.
