
Chapel funeral service for Mr. Claudis Colvin Hawkins, 93, of Rainbow City will be 11 AM, Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Rev. Bobby Joe Winningham will officiate with private burial to follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Claudis was a lifelong resident of Rainbow City. He was an avid runner for the past 44 years, earning over 600 trophies/awards, and was a proud representative of the Alabama team in the past 6 National Senior Olympics. As a dedicated blood donor to the American Red Cross, Claudis donated over 23 gallons of blood. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with more than 35 years of service. Claudis was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden and attended the Hickman-Rayburn Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by first wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Chalfant Hawkins; second wife, Hazel Milner Hawkins; friend and companion, Millie Cochran; sisters, Edith Hawkins Kimball and Eleanor Hawkins Donnelly; and brother, John Paul Hawkins.
Claudis is survived by his sister, Mary Francis Hawkins Waller; son, Donald Gary Hawkins; daughter, Dorothy Kay Faulkner; two grandchildren, Gary Stephens Hawkins and Heather Richelle Iverson; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline Richie Hawkins and Nathaniel Brady Hawkins
In lieu of flowers, to honor Claudis’ commitment to helping others, the family suggests a donation of blood or a memorial to American Red Cross.
The family will be accepting friends on Wednesday morning from 9 until 11 AM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
