
Graveside services will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. in Crestwood Cemetery for Cora Dean Sanford Carr, 88, of Gadsden, who passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Rev. Robbie Hendrick will officiate with special music by Mr. David Clayton. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Carr was a native of Piedmont, living the majority of her life in Etowah County. She was a longtime member of Eastside Presbyterian Church and currently a member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church. She was fond of children, and worked with them in her younger years. Her fondest memories was her work with children in Sunday School. She was very active in her church and various Women’s Club activities. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class for many years. She devoted her entire life to her family and was known as a great cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack William Carr; her loving grandson, Thomas E. Townsend Jr.; and loving sister, Virginia Sanford McCleskey.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathye Dan Carr (Tommy) Townsend; cherished grandsons, Corey Blaine Townsend, and Andrew Brock Townsend; devoted sister, Sandra Kay Sanford (Benny) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Robert Dan Smith, Steven Craig Smith, Mac Bedwell, Dale Fielder; grandsons: Andrew Townsend and Corey Townsend.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice Services, Mr. Scott “Sunshine” Wigginton and Mrs. Michele Ray for their wonderful care and love, in particular, gratitude is expressed to Dixie Ferguson, Mary Jemison, Alicia Moore and Jennifer Harold, whom have become as close as family to us, for their special loving care.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 10:30-11:30 at the funeral home.
