Craig Lynn Brooks, 71, entered heaven on September 27, 2025, declaring the words of the Apostle Paul in Il Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." God's perfect peace was with Craig as he went home to his Savior Jesus Christ after a brave battle against pancreatic cancer.
From a very young age, Craig's God-given gifts and skills were apparent. As an automotive genius and fabricator, he took great pride in the quality of his craftsmanship. It was an established fact that Craig Brooks could fix anything! Following a career of working on German cars as owner of Brooks Auto Service, Craig spent the past fifteen years building cool old cars and trucks for grateful customers who soon became close friends.
Craig and wife Anita brought local classic car and hot rod owners together to form lasting cherished friendships, as witnessed by the outpouring of support at a recent benefit car show in Hokes Bluff to honor Craig. He loved spending time with friends at First Friday, cruise-ins at Big Chief Drive In, and traveling to car events.
His motto was to leave no cruiser behind or stranded and generously gave his time and talents to help friends in need. Craig will be remembered for his love of family and friends and a lifetime lived with integrity, patience, and kindness. Craig gave his life to Christ in 1980 and was a member of Gadsden Christian Fellowship Church.
Craig and Anita shared a beautiful love story that began at just 17 years old and blossomed into a lifelong partnership spanning 52 years of marriage. They were truly inseparable—whenever you saw one, the other was never far behind—a testament to their unbreakable bond and unwavering devotion. Together, they navigated life’s joys and challenges side by side, building a partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and mutual respect that inspired all who knew them.
In Craig’s final days in the hospital, his eyes remained lovingly fixed on Anita, finding comfort and peace in her presence until the very end. Their story stands as a shining example of enduring commitment and true companionship.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dr. Walter Rowan; parents, Billy and Mildred Brooks; brother, Robin Brooks; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Ola Still; and brothers-in-law, Gary Still, Bob Davis, and Harold Bowling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Brooks; brother, Bill (Debbie) Brooks; sisters, Sandra (Jud) Hamilton, Bonnie Sue Bowling, Debbie (Danny) Hammock, Rowanna (Don) Hudson, and Amy Brooks Ernest; brother-in-law, Michael Still; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; numerous cherished friends that are like family; The Rainbow City Hot Rod Club; and special friend, Roger Helm.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams at UAB and Gadsden Regional hospitals for their compassionate care. Also, to the hundreds of friends, church family, and even strangers who have supported us through this journey with their love and prayers.
A Celebration of Craig's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Pastors Johnny Johnson and Randy Helms will officiate. The family will accept friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
