

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Frances McGowan and Joseph D. Hankins.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Miriam Black Hankins; his daughter, Kim Sparks (Dan) and his son, Mark Hankins (Jamie). His pride and joy were his six grandchildren, Kathryn, Daniel, Matthew, Jon, Addison, and Logan. He is also survived by his brother, Ramey Hankins (Jan) and his sisters, Amaryles Simmons and Jan Aycock.
He was a baseball player and graduate of Samford University School of Pharmacy. Mr. Hankins worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Eli Lily for 30 years. In his retirement years, he found the greatest joy cheering on his grandchildren at their many events. He and Miriam are members of First Baptist Church of Gadsden. His family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers that treated him along this journey.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Gadsden on Monday, August 19th 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. A celebration of life service will follow. Services will be conducted by Reverend Mat Alexander and Dr. Craig Carlise. Burial will be at Williams Southside Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Barnes, Mike Driskell, Wayne Eads, Ray Grigsby, Greg Ford, and Rick Kemp.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Young Life of Gadsden or Etowah Baptist Missions Center.
