

David Dewitt “Speedy” Patterson- 81 years old, longtime owner of Patterson’s Grocery in Turkey Town passed away September 28, 2016. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Speedy was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Gertie Patterson; son, John Patterson; daughter, Laura Patterson-Hale; brothers, Silvey, Mason, Billy, and Cecil Patterson; sister, Ruth Alverson; and granddaughter Hannah Patterson.
He is survived by his Wife Mary Patterson; Children, Sherrie Patterson (Jimmy Kay), David (Penny) Patterson, Sam (Amy) Patterson, Jeri (James) McGee, Dale (Debora) Patterson, Amy (Mike) Roe and Jerry Zimmerman; 24 Grand kids; 23 Great-Grandkids; 5 Great-Great-Grandkids and numerous nieces nephews, and special friends, Will Hall , Gary Gidley, Joe Allen, Eddie Wayne Comer, and many, many more.
To put Speedy’s 81 years into words is impossible, he was known by many, and loved by most. He was larger than life, a friend to strangers, a father figure to several, a help in time of need, a mentor, a hero, and if you were his friend, you were family. His time on Earth was filled with love, laughter, fun, hard work, poker playing, afternoon naps, and watching the sunrise with his wife.
By God’s Grace Speedy trusted in Jesus for his eternal salvation, and is now free of pain and sickness and will spend eternity in Heaven. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Lee Bruce, Chuck Weaver, Joshua Patterson, Jon Stewart, Alan Reagan, and Ben Stewart. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Early, Jon Patterson, and Jimmy Key.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
