Doris T. Boyle, 96, entered eternity with the Lord on Friday, October 27, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. John Dickenson and Rev. Larry Ballard will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Mr. & Mrs. Boyle were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church, later joined fellowship with Bellevue Baptist Church and then East Gadsden Baptist Church. They were ever faithful and active members and followers of Jesus Christ.
Mother continually showered her love and concern of life’s journey for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, with encouragement to give and do our best. She loved cooking for her extended family and setting tableware to perfection. She was always busy with cooking, digging in her flower gardens, sewing, needlepoint, of crafts of various kinds for decorating her home. She was the perfect Southern lady.
She lived out her belief that everyone should be considerate of the other person’s feelings and kind to every person. She said she believed that God placed every individual on this earth to help his fellow man. She prayed that when she left this life, through kindness, she would have touched lives, and at least had some small part in making this world a better place in which to live.
Mrs. Boyle graduated from Piedmont High School in 1940, and later Gadsden Business College, and attended Gadsden State. She was employed with Sears Roebuck & Co. for 29 years, the last 24 years of which she held the position of secretary to the store manager. She won the 1961 Courtesy Service Contest Award for Sears Southern Territory.
She was a member of the National Secretaries Association, International, serving as President, Treasurer, Bosses Night Chairman, Secretaries Institute Chairman, Corresponding Secretary, and served on the finance committee for the Alabama Division. She was twice elected “Secretary of the Year,” in 1963 and 1970, for the Gadsden Chapter of the National Secretaries Association, International.
In 1983 she won the Grandmother and/or Senior Citizen Pageant, sponsored by her grandchildren who were very proud of her.
Mrs. Boyle was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband of 62 years, William James Boyle. She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Kennedy, Santa Monica, CA and Martha Landers, Huntsville; brother-in-law, Oliver Boyle, Dallas TX; daughters, Sylvia (Gary) Downey and Gloria (Marvin) Self; grandchildren, Dee Downey Pruett, Derrick (Stephanie) Downey, Sue (David) Mixson, Darren (Missy) Downey, Shay Hefner; great grandchildren, Bradney Downey, Josh (Courtney) Pruett, Dalton Downey, Maddie Mixson, John Hefner, Ben Downey, Drew Mixson, Lacy Downey, Max Hefner, Zeke Hefner, Micah Downey, Aiden McKay, and much loved nieces and nephews.
