Doris Parsons Smith

Chapel funeral services honoring the life of Doris Parsons Smith, 82, of Gadsden, will be 3 pm, Sunday, December 6, 2009. Ministers Blake Jones and Norman Flynn will officiate with burial at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Southside. Services entrusted to the care of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.Doris was born in Jefferson County, AL, and was raised and lived in Gadsden her entire life. She was a graduate of Glencoe High School and member of Rainbow Church of Christ. She was a very hard worker all of her life and was currently working for Johnson’s Giant Foods, where she has been employed for the past 11 years. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary, Post 8600. She was a former President of the Ladies Auxillary for the State of Alabama. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Smith; grandson, Jeffery Smith; and granddaughter, Kandice Johnson.She is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Kurt) Eckland and Kay (Jeff) Johnson; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and chosen sister, Betty Sue Lowery.Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Kurt Eckland, Danny McDill, Tony Bearden, Nathan Garmon, and Archie Garrison.Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Urbina, Dr. Newman, Jr., MICU and SICU staff at Gadsden Regional for all their excellent care and love, and Johnson’s Giant Foods for their love and support.The family will be accepting friends from 6 until 8 PM on Saturday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
